Editor, The Smithfield Times:

I have been reading in The Smithfield Times of the new planned development on the former Pierceville property.

I know there have been some supporters along with some opposition to the proposal. Could this be due to the fact that there has been nothing proposed for the kids? Knowing that Mr. Luter wants to do something for our community, I would like to propose adding an indoor ice-skating rink to the mixed-zoning plans.

If an indoor ice-skating rink is built, the town would be able to provide the following teams for the school system: a hockey team, a figure skating team and possibly a curling team. There would also be regular ice-skating lessons and fun skating.

Smithfield is big on small-town pride. Adding local sports teams would continue to build on that pride. Who knows how far the teams could go?

Please invest not only in the interests of Smithfield but also in the interests of the children. Please think of us kids.
