The Smithfield Police Department is seeking two suspects accused of a February hit-and-run that sent two people to the hospital.
Officers were dispatched to a reported three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Benn’s Church Boulevard and Canteberry Lane on Feb. 25. According to the incident report, drivers of two vehicles told police they’d been stopped at a traffic light when a silver Volkswagen sedan struck the first stopped vehicle and pushed it into the second.
The driver of the Volkswagen is described as a 5-foot-5 thin white female in her 30s with dark hair and multiple tattoos and facial piercings. According to the incident report, she and a male passenger exited their vehicle to talk with one of the other drivers but got back in and drove away – without checking on the occupants of the third vehicle – when the driver said he was calling the police.
A 74-year-old female was transported by ambulance to Sentara Obici Hospital from the scene. A 62-year-old male also injured in the crash then checked himself into the emergency room.
According to Deputy Chief Chris Meier, police have identified the Volkswagen’s male passenger but is not releasing his name, as they’re still trying to identify the female.
