Mill Creek Drive bridge reopens

More than one month ahead of schedule, contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation completed a bridge replacement project on Mill Creek Drive (Route 638) over Burnt Mill Swamp in Isle of Wight County.

Route 638 between Yellow Hammer Road (Route 645) and Mill Creek Trail reopened to traffic on July 15 following a five-month closure during construction.

Contractor crews replaced the 71-year-old bridge with a single-span, pre-stressed concrete box beam bridge, as well as widened the lanes to nine feet and paved the shoulders at the bridge approaches in both directions.
