The Jamestown-Scotland Ferry will begin following its fall/winter/spring operating schedule Sept. 12.
Fall/winter/spring departure times are listed at http://www.vdot.virginia.gov/VDOT/Travel/easset_upload_file15160_149748_e.pdf.
The ferry, operated by the Virginia Department of Transportation, transports motorists across the James River from Surry County to Jamestown, 24 hours a day, 365 days per year, as a free service.
The fall schedule lists the same 43 departure times for each day of the week. The summer schedule, which the ferry has been using since May 27, offers more frequent trips on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, intended to help accommodate increased usage during the summer travel season.
There are four ferries. One of the largest ferries can hold up to 70 vehicles. Once on board, the trip takes approximately 20 minutes. Traffic queues approximately one-half mile from the boarding locations can be viewed at www.jsferry.org.
