Over the last year the residents of this county have been exceptionally generous in their support of the Isle of Wight Christian Outreach Program.

Individually or through school groups, church groups, service organizations and local charitable foundations, they have contributed money, food, books, diapers and many other items that have enabled COP to help the needy of our county. The outpouring of giving has been especially generous over the last few months as COP has faced a substantial increase in the number of families needing food.

The Smithfield police, Isle of Wight Academy, Smithfield High School clubs, church groups and others stepped up with food drives to fill our shelves. In November, COP served over 600 families, providing them with a turkey and items for a Thanksgiving dinner in addition to the normal food items.

In December COP will have served over 500 families, providing them with a Christmas ham in addition to the normal food items. Also, in support of the holiday season, COP coordinated the giving of presents to clients over 65 years of age through the Angel Tree program supported by local businesses and residents and supported the Smithfield Cares program, which provides Christmas gifts and books to local children.

Of course, our help does not get to the needy by itself. Just as valuable are the many volunteers who donate their time and energy to make sure that the programs we support are the best possible. Again, thank you to all that have helped COP over the years and those who will support us in the future.
