Editor, The Smithfield Times:

As Carter Williams has just ended his term as our mayor of Smithfield, a position he has held since 2012, we will welcome in a new mayor with high hopes and aspirations to make Smithfield as best it can be.

I would like to take a moment to thank Mr. Williams for his unwavering support to help make Smithfield the town we are so proud of today. So many great aspects of our town, like the Luter Sports Complex and the Windsor Castle Park project, were realized in part because of Mr. Williams’ involvement. He has spent a tremendous amount of time toward the betterment of Smithfield when he could have spent that time with his family or enjoyed his other interests.

So I applaud you, Carter Williams, for all you have done for our town. I would ask my fellow town residents to do the same. If you happen to see Mr. Williams out and about, and you will, give him a handshake and a “thank you.”

There is no doubt that he will still be a very active and involved member of this town. Thanks, Carter.
