Editor, The Smithfield Times:

When we came to this area in 2001 it was because of small-town Smithfield. We may live in Carrollton, but it is Smithfield that drew us here. We are only about a mile from the town line.

Things have really changed. The area has grown in the 22 years that we have been here. But Smithfield has stayed the same. A lovely small town.

Now young Mr. Joe Luter IV wants to change all of that. His first plan was bad enough. Now he wants to go up in height and put in more housing and units per acre.

Smithfield and Isle of Wight do not have the infrastructure nor the schools to support his plan as well as the many other housing developments going up all over the area. This one appears, on paper, to be a jumble of tall and short buildings jammed into 57 acres with a huge farmers market that I doubt our area can support, especially in the winter.

Also, the sale prices of these homes do not seem to be “affordable” for the average buyer. And one other “little” note: Where the heck is the Schoolhouse?
