It’s absolutely ridiculous that the entire county and greater area should be held hostage away from the DMV because of a squabbling dispute over appearance by holier-than-thou town employees.

When citizens need to renew their license or registration or take care of critical issues, the last thing they are going to care about is whether the building has enough bricks in its facade. This whole issue is completely ludicrous.

Church Street is muddied with some truly awkward-looking buildings, but I don’t see any of them being forced to undergo renovations to look a certain way. For years we had to look at a burnt-up concrete carcass that once was an ice cream shop.

Most DMV locations have a consistent look and design that makes them instantly recognizable and uniform throughout Virginia. It is a very pleasing and attractive design both inside and out.

Locating the new DMV in the town limits of Smithfield is also not fair or centrally located either, because it puts a great disadvantage to all citizens who live south of the courthouse. Why is Church Street the only place it can be located?

In Gloucester, the DMV is found on a major highway in a rural area and that prevents massive traffic congestion if it were in town.

Isle of Wight needs a DMV location and it should be accessible to everyone in and around the county it serves. I strongly suggest DMV seek out another property outside of town limits to address a serious and immediate need.
