A Newport News woman was charged with drunken driving after a pedestrian was struck late on June 3 in Carrollton and later died.
Kacey Christina Kelly, 35, of Carrollton was struck just before midnight at Route 17/Carrollton Boulevard and Eagle Harbor Parkway.
She was “walking in the lane of travel with dark clothing,” Virginia State Police said, when she was struck by a 2015 Nissan Altima driven by Katelynn Anna Reyes, 28, of Newport News. Kelly was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where she died. The victim did not have any form of identification, and police had sought help identifying her the day after the accident. Identification was made, and next of kin were notified June 5.
Reyes was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
The victim may have been struck by a second, unknown vehicle, VSP said in a news release. Anyone with information should call 757-424-6800 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
