A weekend crash in Isle of Wight County killed a motorcyclist.

According to Virginia State Police, 71-year-old Richard A. Wells of Windsor was traveling east on Central Hill Road, roughly 3½ miles from the county courthouse, when his Harley-Davidson and a westbound Jeep Cherokee driven by 84-year-old Alton R. Jewell of Ivor side-swiped each other along the center line at a curve in the road.

The impact caused the motorcycle to run off the road and strike a utility pole. Wells was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Jewell was uninjured. The crash remains under investigation.
