Windsor’s Town Council, on June 11, took its first look at revised interior plans for a new municipal building.

The town reopened discussions in January with Moseley Architects, the firm prior council members had hired in 2017 to design a replacement for the circa-1962 building on Route 460 that houses the town’s government. The town had purchased 5 acres adjacent to TowneBank in 2012 for the project though the land remains undeveloped.

Moseley had originally proposed a roughly 7,800-square-foot building that would front Shirley Drive at the road’s intersection with the four-lane Route 460 highway through town. On June 11, the council reviewed three sets of plans ranging from 7,677 to 8,277 square feet. All three show a one-story building similar in layout to what was proposed in 2017.

Two of the three designs include a drive-thru window intended to allow flexibility for taxpayers who need to pay a bill in person.

Differences in the three sets of plans include the location and size of public bathrooms and individual versus bench seating in the council chamber.

All three show a lobby area with a receptionist window and the town seal made from terrazzo flooring. All three also include options for expanding the building’s footprint in the future should the town need additional space.

The council plans to meet again prior to selecting a design.

Windsor Town Manager William Saunders said no cost estimate or construction timeline has been established yet.
