Smithfield High alum named president of family physicians academy

Dr. Morris Brown III, a physician and 1983 graduate of Smithfield High School, was recently named president of the South Carolina Academy of Family Physicians.
As SCAFP president, Brown – himself a family physician in Lake City, South Carolina – will advocate on behalf of family physicians and patients to inspire change in the U.S. health care system.
Brown, a native of Virginia, is the medical director and owner of Lake City Family Medicine LLC and Medicine Associates LLC in Kingstree, South Carolina. He is the son of Morris Brown Jr., husband to Bonnilynn, and the father of five children.
Morris holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Norfolk State University and earned his medical degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical school. He completed his family medicine residency in Portsmouth.
As a member of SCAFP since 1994, Brown previously served the South Carolina Assembly of Family Physicians as a board member, member of the public health commission, Legislation & Governmental Affairs Committee, vice president, and chair of the continuing professional development committee. Brown also represents Congressional District 6 on the South Carolina Board of Health and Environmental Health.
Brown is certified by the American board of Family Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the National Medical Association and the South Carolina Medical Association.
He is the son of Cathy and Morris Brown Jr.
