Editor, The Smithfield Times:   

Peter K. Acker was spot on with his letter (“Opposed to solar farms,” July 10) stating his points against solar farms. 

I would just like to add that with all of the things that are leached into the soil from these panels, they will contaminate the soil, causing eventual contamination of well water and rivers. In addition, if they are not taken to a landfill when their life span is over, they will likely be plowed into the ground, making the fields useless for planting and for cattle grazing. A total waste of the land. 

I also hope that the gentleman who wrote saying that he wants to partner his farm with a solar company (“Solar boosts agriculture,” July 10) reads Mr. Acker’s letter.
