Letter – Actions speak louder than words

Editor, The Smithfield Times:
Each election season voters are inundated with campaign speeches, advertisements, propaganda, etc., with each candidate “verbally” outlining their platform. Voters hear the promises of the candidates and rarely see a follow through after the candidates are elected.
In Smithfield’s upcoming local election, we have the opportunity to elect individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to the community via their actions. Candidates who have “walked the walk” not just “talked the talk!”
Prior to their decision to run for Town Council, both Mary Ellen Bebermeyer and Bill Harris have taken their own time to research numerous community issues and used that research to address town leadership on more than one occasion. Their actions and recommendations have not been self-serving but instead reflect genuine commitment to the town they love and in which they reside.
Add Darren Cutler to the equation and you have a team that brings a fresh outlook to the Town of Smithfield’s opportunities for growth, infrastructure, transparency and “All Things Smithfield!” Simply review the candidate forum the Smithfield Times has provided each week. The candidates’ responses to much debated issues are reflective of the leadership our community deserves.
Finally, I would be remiss in not mentioning Mike Smith’s years of dedication and service to our community. Mike has listened to his constituents and has led as well as voted accordingly. That said, citizens of Smithfield, the decision is now ours. Make your voices heard and your vote count. Vote for Bebermeyer, Cutler, Harris and Smith!
