Two Isle of Wight mobile homes burn overnight

Separate overnight fires destroyed two Isle of Wight County mobile homes.

According to Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Chief Garry Windley, the first fire was reported at 11:27 p.m. on Sept. 17 in the 7400 block of Peanut Drive, roughly 6½  miles outside the town of Windsor. Firefighters arrived to find a double-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames.

The Windsor, Smithfield and Rushmere volunteer fire departments and the Isle of Wight and Windsor volunteer rescue squads also responded alongside Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue to the scene.

Within one hour, firefighters had brought the fire under control. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The second fire occurred at 5:29 a.m. on Sept. 18 in the 10000 block of Mill Swamp Road, roughly 6½ miles outside the town of Smithfield.

There, firefighters found a single-wide mobile home fully engulfed in flames. The Smithfield and Rushmere VFDs, Isle of Wight Volunteer Rescue Squad and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue responded and quickly isolated the fire to the mobile home. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
