Surry County towns reelect incumbents, Dendron write-in wins with five votes

With three uncontested mayoral races and an equal or lesser number of candidates than available council seats, the results of Surry County’s town-level elections were predictable.
According to complete but unofficial results from Virginia Department of Elections, Daryl Graham was reelected as mayor of Claremont with 140 votes, or 92.7% out of 151 ballots, with write-ins accounting for the remaining 11 votes.
In a separate Town Council race, Claremont voters could select up to five candidates for five available council seats.
Sue Gilbert was the top vote-getter with 159 votes, or 27.1%, of the total, followed by Terrie Foster with 107 votes, or just under 18.3%, Rodney Perkinson Jr. with 107 votes, or just under 18.3%, Phillip Yerby IV with 102 votes, or 17.4%, and Louise Hansch with 91 votes, or 15.5%. All five are incumbents. Write-ins accounted for the remaining 20 votes, or 3.1%.
In the town of Dendron, Wallace Faison Jr. was reelected as mayor with 151 votes, or just under 95%, with eight write-in votes accounting for the remaining 5%.
Dendron voters could select up to six council candidates, though only four were listed on the ballot.
Patricia Byrd led the field with 122 votes, or 28.8%, followed by W.E. “Bill” Richardson Jr. with 93 votes, or just under 22%, Edward Joyner with 90 votes or just under 21.3%, and Adam Chubb Jr. with 81 votes, or 19.1%.
All four are incumbents. Thirty-seven write-in votes accounted for the remaining 8.8%.
Hunter Lackey, an incumbent whose name wasn’t on the ballot, won reelection with six of those write-ins. The remaining seat went to first-time candidate Thomas Byrd with five write-ins.
The town of Surry saw Mayor Bennie Junior Savedge reelected with 113 votes, or just under 94.2%. Seven write-ins accounted for 5.8%.
With five council seats up for grabs, Surry voters also reelected Town Council members Milton Berryman with 85 votes, or 22%, Robert Berryman with 84 votes, or 21.8%, Jason Wiedel with 74 votes or 19.2%, Joe Garcia with 70 votes, or just under 18.2%, and Brian Agor with 64 votes, or 16.6%.
All five are incumbents. Eight write-ins accounted for the remaining 2%.
