For the past 27 summers, children and teens have experienced the joy and learning of Day Camp. I want to thank our partners that allow Day Camp to happen. This project is a cooperative effort by many here in the Isle of Wight community that come together to provide a spiritual, educational and recreational experience for children that normally don’t get the chance do such things.
Over 160 children and 50 teens participated. Two churches, Carrollton and Smithfield Baptist, provided the location and the program. Isle of Wight Academy and its driver, Faith Hall, has provided transportation for the past 20 years. Public agencies Isle of Wight Sheriff, Smithfield Police and Carrollton Fire, provided instructional programs. Kathy Mountjoy and Albert Burckard spoke about our history and industry. Smithfield Kiwanis carried out its mission of helping children by sponsoring kids from needy neighborhoods in the area and allowing Day Campers to participate in the annual Fishing Day event. The Smithfield Times helped promote the event and came out to record for its readers what was happening. Smithfield Swim Club and Carrisbrooke Community pool open their facilities to campers for swimming.
Thanks to all for making Day Camp 2015 another success.
