Supporting Phillips

I have often heard that the best indication of one’s future is to look at their past performance. It is for this reason that I am supporting Georgette Phillips for Commonwealth’s Attorney. Phillips is a seasoned prosecutor who is endorsed by the Isle of Wight Bar Association. Her opponent is not, and has never been, a member of the local bar. In her 14 years with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office, Phillips has prosecuted hundreds of cases, seeking justice for those who have been victims of crime. Her opponent has spent the last 20 years defending people. Philips is well known in the local courts. Her opponent rarely appears in our local courts.
I think the best way to judge one’s character is the look at those they associate with. Much to her credit, Phillips has been endorsed by Sheriff Mark Marshall and Circuit Court Clerk Sharon Jones. More importantly, she has the backing of our law enforcement officers. These people must trust her if they want to continue to work with her for four more years.
Lastly, it appears that Phillips has the backing of her staff, past and present. Phillips spent the past several years working for then Commonwealth’s Attorney and now Judge Wayne Farmer. If Farmer wasn’t confident in her abilities, I don’t think he would have kept her on the payroll during his tenure. It is impressive to see the team she has put together in the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office. It is for all these reasons that I support Phillips and I encourage others to do the same.
