Alan Fletcher MD passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. He was born on July 23, 1930 in Thorne England to George and Elizabeth (Hall) Fletcher. Raised in Kent, he attended Sir Roger Manwoods School. After graduation, he went on to medical school at University College London. It was there that he met his wife Paddy, who was an RN. From 1954-1958, he served as a surgeon in the Royal Army Medical Corps fighting in the Malayan conflict before returning to England. His work as a physician took him on to Saskatchewan, Montana, and finally to Virginia. In 1969, he founded Peninsula Urology in Hampton where he practiced for 30 years.

After retirement, he wrote and published two novels about practicing in the Malayan jungle and on the Fort Peck Sioux Reservation in Montana. He was the sole reservation physician and was adopted into the Sioux Tribe while serving in that role. He lost Paddy in 2019. He is survived by 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. We will miss his kindness, charm, intellect and very British very ironic sense of humor.

Many thanks to the staff of Riverside Lifelong Health and Riverside Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please take a friend to lunch and give them a big hug.
