Ray W. Moore

Ray W. Moore, 90, passed away on Oct. 6, 2015. He was born on Elliott’s Island, Md. and lived most of his life in Cambridge, Md. Ten years ago he moved to Smithfield and resided in Magnolia Manor.
Ray graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1949 and received his masters from Washington College. He taught biology and chemistry and then was a high school principal for 16 years. Mr. Moore served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
During his lifetime, he was interested in boating, reading, and traveling, especially Europe and Florida. While living in Smithfield he collected cans at the ballfield and pool with the proceeds going to support Golden Retriever Rescue, Education + Training (GRREAT). Ray outlived his brothers and sister and his wife, Anita. He is survived by his daughter Jane Jones, son-in-law, Dale, grandchildren Valerie Savage (Nicholas) and Morgan Jones and great-granddaughter, Adelyn.
