Rose Chappell Cox

ELBERON — Rose Chappell Cox, 90, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 after a brief illness.  Born in Wilson, N.C., Rose was the daughter of the late Ernest and Gladys Tosto Webb.  She made her home in Hampton Roads most of her life.  She was one of 13 children, so with Rose it was also “the more the merrier.”  She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her many stories.

In addition to her parents, Rose is preceded in death by her husbands, Archie Garris, Prestley Chappell and Lawson Cox; daughter, Carol S. Garris; son, Danny Garris; brothers Ralph Webb, Lindberg Webb, Beaumont Webb, William Webb, Gene Webb, and sister Hilda Swank. 

Rose leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Rosemary Turko (Ed); sons, Robert G. Garris (Liza), James P. Chappell, John F. Chappell, and George P. Chappell (Mary); 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wallace W. Webb  and Foch N. Webb; four sisters, Mona W. Wright, Roberta W. Garrison, Almyria W. Berry and Geraldine W. Mangum; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A service celebrating Rose’s life will be held Saturday, April 9, 10 a.m., in Colonial Funeral Home, with the Rev. Danny Blalock officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service until noon.  A 1 p.m. burialwill follow in Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Surry Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 188, Surry, VA 23883.
