Edward Robb Scott “Robb” was born December 3, 1917 and died October 25 2016, aged 98.  He was the last-born child of E.H. Scott and Bernice Bullock Scott.  In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers:  Herman, Carey and Rae, and sisters Annie Jarratt, Mae Nappier, and their baby sister Ruby who died before Robb was born.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Thelma C. Scott—who affectionately called him “Scottie”—along with a multitude of four generations of nieces and nephews.

Robb graduated with honors from Isle of Wight High School and Norfolk Business College and attended the College of William and Mary.  He was a decorated World War II Army veteran who fought in the Battle of the Bulge.   He was captured and became a POW until the end of the war.  He was retired after 20 years of service with the U.S. Air Force.  He later retired from Gwaltney Meatpacking Company (later named Smithfield Foods).  Robb visited Pearl Harbor well into his 90s and was given the honor of raising the U.S. flag at the Pearl Harbor Memorial.  As the oldest surviving World War II veteran in Smithfield, Va., Robb enjoyed the many accolades bestowed upon him by the community.

Robb was an inspiration to all who knew him, especially for his positive attitude.  When asked how he was he was doing he would heartily proclaim: “Rock solid!”  He had an amazing memory and was a storyteller with great humor that made his conversations most enjoyable.

Robb was a life-long member of Uzzell United Methodist Church and in recent years attended Smithfield Assembly of God Church.  Robb and Thelma enjoyed acting in the Smithfield Little Theatre and catering meals for cast and crew.

A funeral service will be conducted by Rev. Becky Gwaltney and Rev. Donald Watkins Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016 at 4 p.m. at Uzzell United Methodist Church, 15363 Uzzell Church Road, Smithfield, Va.

The family is very thankful for the loving care given at Consulate Health Care of Windsor as well as from Medi Home Health and Hospice.  Memorial donations in his memory may be made to either Uzzell United Methodist Church, Smithfield Assembly of God Church, 1800 S.
