Virginia Lee Stockley Hutchens

Virginia Lee Stockley Hutchens, a resident of Willow Creek in Smithfield, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2016. Virginia resided in Smithfield for nearly her entire adult life. She was predeceased by her parents, Nathaniel H. and Sallie Johnson Stockley of the Eastern Shore as well as by each of her seven siblings. Her husband, William M. Hutchens, a Smithfield Chevrolet dealer, passed away in 1961, and her son, William M. Hutchens Jr., a political consultant, passed away in 2004. Besides her loving grandson, William M. Hutchens III (Will) of Virginia Beach and his mother, Judge Deborah Rawls, Mrs. Hutchens is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Virginia worked in the Smithfield High School library for many years. She was also a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. Jeff Cannon on Saturday, Nov. 26, 10 a.m. at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Boulevard, Newport News. Pallbearers will be nephews Dick Stockley, Joe Bryant, Alan Defend, Don Lovett and Nathaniel Lovett, and grandson, Will Hutchens. Funeral arrangements are being made by Parr Funeral Home Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 Cedar St., Smithfield, VA 23430 or a charity of one’s choice.
