The Surry County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 7:00pm in the General District Courtroom, 45 School Street, Surry, VA 23883 to hear citizen comments on proposed Ordinance 2017-01 to provide an exemption from personal property and real estate taxes pursuant to Section 58.1-3651 of the Code of Virginia for Dogs Deserve Better, Inc. The assessed value of the real property owned by Dogs Deserve Better, Inc. (Tax Map Parcels 54-27A and 54-7A) is $751,700.00 and the annual real estate property tax is $5,337.07. The current assessed value of the tangible personal property owned by Dogs Deserve Better, Inc. is $30,125.00 and the annual tangible personal property tax is $1,205.00. A copy of the ordinance may be obtained through the County Administrator’s Office, 45 School Street, P.O. Box 65, Surry, VA 23883.

Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Wight County Planning Commission will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 to consider for recommendation to the Board of Supervisors the following applications: The application of Gary Burke, owner and applicant, for a Conditional Use Permit on 5 acres of land, located at 19271 Muddy Cross Drive in the Newport Election District. The purpose of the application is to allow for a contractor office/storage facility to be located on a parcel currently zoned Rural Agricultural Conservation (RAC).
An ordinance to amend and reenact the following sections of the Isle of Wight County Code, Appendix B, Zoning: Article V, Supplementary use regulations; Section 5-5002, Supplementary use regulations for residential use types; in order to revise the requirements for home occupations.
Copies of said applications are on file in the Department of Planning and Zoning at the Isle of Wight County Courthouse Complex, Isle of Wight, Virginia, and are available for public examination. Any person desiring to be heard in favor of, in opposition to, or to express his or her views with respect to said applications may appear before and be heard by said Planning Commission during the Public Hearing to be held in the Robert C. Claud, Sr. Board Room at the Isle of Wight County Courthouse Complex, Isle of Wight, Virginia, on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The County of Isle of Wight is in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The Plaintiff filed this suit pursuant to Va. Code § 58.1-3965, et seq., to enforce its delinquent tax liens against the following real estate standing in the name of Gregory D. Harris:

An affidavit having been filed that the Plaintiff used due diligence to locate the unknown heirs, devisees and successors in interest of Allen M. Wells and Anna P. Wells, but without effect; that the post office addresses of the unknown heirs, devisees and successors of Allen M. Wells and Anna P. Wells are unknown; that the Plaintiff served Defendant Gregory D. Harris, if living, by posted service at his last known post office address of 8936 Kings Charter Drive, Mechanicsville, VA 23116 and has used due diligence to ascertain any other location for him, but without effect; that the Plaintiff served Defendants McKenzie Harris, Sr. and Dottie Harris, if living, by posted service at their last known post office address of 5056 Old Stage Highway, Smithfield, VA 23430 and has used due diligence to ascertain any other location for them, but without effect; that the Plaintiff used due diligence to locate the unknown heirs, devisees and successors in interest of Gregory D. Harris, McKenzie Harris, Sr. and Dottie Harris, if not living, but without effect; that the last post office addresses of the unknown heirs, devisees and successors in interest of Gregory D. Harris, McKenzie Harris, Sr. and Dottie Harris if not living, are unknown; and that there may be other persons having an interest in the property whose names and addresses are unknown, and those claiming through the aforementioned parties, all such persons made defendants as “Parties Unknown.”
It is ORDERED that this Order be published at least once a week for two successive weeks in the Smithfield Times, a newspaper of general circulation in Isle of Wight, Virginia, and that the parties named herein appear at 9 a.m. February 15, 2017, in the Isle of Wight Circuit Court Clerk’s Office and do what may be necessary to protect their respective interests.
