Lillian Hollowell James

BELVIDERE, N.C. — Lillian Hollowell James, 80, of Belvidere, N.C. transitioned Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach.

Mrs. James was a resident of Smithfield, where she retired from Isle of Wight County schools after 32 years.  

Mrs. James was the daughter of the late Rev. George V. Hollowell and Mary Ophelia Hollowell and the wife of Tim James of Elizabeth City, N.C.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Arlisa Kirton of Norfolk, the Rev. Dr. Kisha James of Holly Springs, N.C. and Erica Culbreath (Leron) of Herndon; one son, Timothy James of the home; three sisters, Marvis Clark (Olangston) of Carneys Point, N.J., Ella Jackson of Chesapeake and Battina Alrazi of Belvidere; two brothers, George P. Hollowell (Margaret) of Elkton, Md. and Elton Hollowell (Balinda) of Belvidere; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  

The wake is Friday, Dec. 15, 5-7 p.m. at Bay Branch A.M.E. Zion Church, Belvidere.

A funeral service will be conducted at the church on Saturday, Dec. 16, 1 p.m., with the Rev. Joseph Walton, officiating.  Burial will be in the Hollowell Family Cemetery, Belvidere.
