Lester J. Shenk Jr., 77, formerly of Denbigh, Williamsburg and Chatam, died peacefully at his son Dale Shenk’s home in Smithfield on Sept. 2, 2018 after a long illness.
He was a carpenter and cabinetmaker and retired from Williamsburg Millwork Shop. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, having hunted in Alaska and Newfoundland. In his retirement, he built beautiful rustic tables and lamps.
Lester is survived by his wife, Sandy Shenk of Chatam; his three sons, L. Dale Shenk (Tammy) of Smithfield, Mark A. Shenk (Beverly) of Elberon, Benji Shenk (Meg) of North Carolina; a daughter, Cindy (Franklin) Shenk of Smithfield; four grandsons, CJ Franklin (Lea) of Williamsburg; Sgt. Clinton Dale Franklin, U.S. Army, Hawaii; Joseph S. Shenk of Yorktown and Michael Dale Shenk (Megan) of Suffolk; and two great-grandchildren, Kayleigh and Keagan Shenk.
A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, 1 p.m. at Olive Branch Christian Church, 7643 Richmond Road in Williamsburg.
