CHESAPEAKE — Peggy Wright Johnson was called home to be with her beloved husband, Jackie Johnson, on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018. She was born in Suffolk to the late Samuel and Virginia Wright; and married her one true love 63 years ago and spent the rest of her life committed to him and building a beautiful family. Peggy was a member of Community Church of Western Branch; and was a school bus driver for 47 years for the City of Portsmouth Public Schools, where she loved and nurtured thousands of children who certainly remember her big smile and sweet greetings.

Peggy is survived by her three sons, Gregory K. Johnson and wife Karin, Mark K. Johnson and wife Karen, and John “Tim” Johnson; four grandsons, Kent, Justin, Corey and Taylor Johnson; two great-grandsons, Brody and Barron Johnson; three great-granddaughters, Ava Grace, Joselyn and August Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings, Samuel Wright and wife Phyllis, and Linda Miller and husband Louis; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

Peggy was a true Steel Magnolia who always carried herself with beauty and grace and had a smile for everyone who crossed her path. To know her was to love her. A Southern lady, she loved with her whole heart and showed compassion as a true child of God. The world is a better place because Peggy was here.

A funeral service will be held Thursday Sept. 27, 11 a.m. in Community Church of Western Branch by Pastor Jason Hawks. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel. There will be a luncheon on Thursday at the church following the committal at the grave.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Operation Smile.
