On Saturday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2018, at about 3:30 p.m. in the afternoon, our beloved father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Shirley L. Jones, entered eternal rest and peace. 

He was born June 11, 1946. He was baptized and joined the Emmanuel Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the public schools of Isle of Wight County, graduating with the Westside High School Class of 1967. After graduation, he was employed for a short time with Smithfield Packing Company before entering the U.S. Army, serving his country proudly until being honorably discharged. 

After his military service, Shirley was employed by Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, where he retired after 42 years of service. 

Shirley was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa B. Jones; his parents and two brothers, Jasper L. Jones and Arthur M. Jones.

He leaves to cherish his memory one son, Timothy Lamont Jones; one grandson, Destin Chatman, three brothers, Raymond T. Jones Sr. (Mary), Frank E. Jones and Edward Jones (Veronica)  sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held Jan. 4, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Smithfield, with burial in New Jones Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Windsor.
