A Smithfield man was shot dead at the 7-Eleven on West Main Street in Smithfield late last night. Desmond Smith, 21, was the victim of multiple gunshot wounds. The Smithfield Police responded to a call of shots fired at around 11 p.m. and Smith was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:05 p.m. by EMS responders, according to the Smithfield Police. The crime is under investigation.
