Mrs. Margaret Luanne Harrison Mortimer passed away on Jan. 29, 2020 in Riverside Healthy Living Community in Smithfield.  She had been in poor health for the last year or so as a result of an extended illness.   She was born in Norfolk the daughter of Charles L. and Elizabeth B. During her married life she accompanied her husband to such diverse areas as Long Island, Norfolk, Pearl Harbor, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Korea and Washington D.C.  She was a constant participant in Woman’s Club activities at all duty stations, particularly if they included knitting, crocheting or any other activities involving needles and yarn.  She even found time to play golf, recording the only hole-in-one in the family.  After her husband’s retirement from the service, they moved to New Orleans where he was employed as shipyard manager at Avondale Shipyard.  Upon his second retirement, they moved to Smithfield where she has made many friends and continued involvement in community supportive efforts.  Besides her husband of 60 years, she is survived by three daughters, Anne Craig (Dana), Pamela (Woody) and Elizabeth (Glenn), 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a sister, Charla Marcel (Dave) of Heathsville.  A memorial service will be held Saturday, Febr. 8, 2 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home in Smithfield. Burial will be at a later date at the U.S. Naval Academy. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that contributions to the American Cancer Society be made in memory of Luanne.
