Smithfield-based Home Sweet Home Care is looking for community support for a food drive.

The food drive will benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia. “This has been a tough year for everyone and we want to give back to the people in our community that may need a little extra help,” the business said in an announcement.

Home Sweet Home will have a box outside its office at 346 Main St. where donations can be dropped off.

The foodbank is looking for the following items:

• canned tuna, chicken or ham
• canned vegetables
• pasta meals and sauces
• canned fruit or fruit cups
• hearty, meaty soups
• whole wheat crackers, cereal, breakfast bars or oatmeal
• boxed rice
• whole wheat pasta
• 100% fruit juices
• peanut butter and jelly.

Personal hygiene and baby items are also sought. They include:

• baby food and formula
• baby wipes
• shampoo
• deodorant
• toothbrushes and toothpaste
• toilet paper

The foodbank can’t accept large cases of water, items that are more than one year past the listed expiration date on the package, glass containers or rice in packages larger than two pounds.

Donations will be accepted through the end of the year.
