A two-hour drive and an Instagram post helped Brittany Furr of Carrollton win a unique prize.

Furr, her husband Aaron and their 2-year-old daughter Cora will soon get to cruise around on a custom, bright-yellow, Bojangles-themed golf cart after winning the eatery’s #BoFangate contest.

Bojangles launched the contest this fall as a way for football fans to support their teams this year without being in the stadium. Fans were encouraged to purchase an eight-, 12- or 20-piece chicken meal, then post a photo to social media of themselves and their family or friends enjoying the food from the team-themed boxes with the hashtags #BoFangate Contest and #itsBotime.

Furr said winning such a large prize is a first for her.

“This is unique and exciting and I’m just blown away,” she said. “We’ve never won anything like this. We’re excited to drive around a Bojangles golf cart. There’s no words to share our excitement. It’s definitely a unique and fun prize.”

Starting in September, the regional chicken chain chose a winner each week, and Furr was selected as the overall winner when the event ended this month. Furr was offered the golf cart or two 2021 season tickets for any of the 10 teams featured as part of the promotion.

“If you’re familiar with Carrollton, you know we don’t have many food options unless you’re willing to drive to Harbour View,” Furr said. “We eat at Bojangles more than I would like to admit. We love the restaurant and we’re there all the time.”

“Unfortunately you can’t get a team themed box in Carrollton,” she continued. “So we had to drive like two hours down to North Carolina looking for a team themed box, because we were determined to get one.”

When they got their hands on a team themed box, they posted two photos to Instagram — one enjoying dinner with a regular Bojangles meal box and another with the sports-themed box tailgating in front of the eatery’s Carrollton location.

Choosing the golf cart over the season tickets was an easy decision.

“I think what most drove us to do this is my daughter is obsessed with golf carts,” Furr said on a video call. “My parents, who live in Florida, they live in a retirement community and they have a golf cart. And every time we come here, she is just obsessed with it. She doesn’t say many words, but she does say ‘golf cart’ and ‘french fries,’” Furr said.

In addition to the photos, here’s what Furr wrote that got Bojangles’ attention: “This Carolina Panthers’ themed tailgate picnic at Bojangles with my loved ones was a TOUCHDOWN. Thank you @bojangles for helping us find some normalcy and fun during the most abnormal times. I wonder how this tailgate would look on the back of a golf cart?” She added some emojis for good measure — raised hands and a few hearts.

Although they haven’t yet received the prize — it’s still in production — Furr said they plan to put it to use on a golf course soon. In addition to enjoying football, “we’re big golfers as well,” she said. “My husband golfs regularly and I golf regularly. It’s kind of our hobby together.” She said Bojangles’ tasty food and good service will continue to be something their family enjoys together, too.

“Every time we go, first of all, my daughter is obsessed with their french fries, so we always have to get french fries,” Furr continued. “But their biscuits are just like nothing else — you just can’t get that good of a biscuit anywhere else in my opinion. I always get a chicken strip box because I love their chicken too.”

Furr and her husband are Carolina Panthers fans — not surprisingly, he also is from North Carolina.

Aaron is a Navy nurse and Furr, a California native, is studying full-time at Eastern Virginia Medical School with plans to commission into the Air Force after receiving her master’s degree in health care administration.
