Virginia Ann Flemming

Virginia “Ginger” Ann Flemming (Skur), 89, of Smithfield, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at Lucy Corr Village in Chesterfield.
She was born on Oct. 3, 1931, in Maryland and was a resident of Smithfield for 50 years. During her lifetime, Ginger served as a member of the staffs of congressmen Lawrence J. Hogan of Maryland and John Warner of Virginia, and was named to the advisory board of the Western Tidewater Mental Health Center in Suffolk in the late 1970s. She worked for the V.H. Monette Company in the 1970s, and retired from Virginia Power in Surry in 1992. Along with being a devout Christian, Ginger enjoyed watching wildlife, tending to her birdfeeder, and listening to the music of Roger Williams. Above all, spending time with her family was what she cherished most.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard A. Skur and Mary Elizabeth Turner; brother, Jack Leonard Skur; and beloved son, Charles F. Flemming IV.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Sandra Flemming (Zach Hilpert) and their son, August Hilpert; grandson, Brett Flemming; granddaughter, Patricia Flemming and her daughters, Emma and Bella Flemming; and special neighbors, Becky and Terry Ringler. Ms. Flemming was best known as “Grammy” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will be held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, at St. Luke’s Historic Church Cemetery, 14477 Benns Church Blvd., Smithfield, VA 23430.
