Vaccine event went smoothly

- Editor, The Smithfield Times:
I want to take this opportunity to thank the Western Tidewater Health District and Emergency Manager Will Drewery for the recent successful distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Smithfield Center. Mr Drewery and his staff were extraordinarily helpful, courteous and polite during the distribution process.
The average time it took to receive the vaccine from start to finish was 25 minutes, which included the 15 minutes waiting period after receiving the shot.
It is important to note that Mr. Drewery and his staff can only give as many shots as the Western Tidewater Health District is allocated. The Virginia Department of Health controls the number of shots provided to each health district. Therefore, if citizens have any difficulties with receiving the vaccine, they should contact their state legislator or Gov. Ralph Northam’s office.
These are certainly challenging times we face, so I am asking that everyone please be patient as the VDH works with the Western Tidewater Health District to continue rolling out the vaccine as it becomes available.
Again, a big thank you to Mr Drewery and his staff for their hard work!
T. Carter Williams
Mayor
